The bachelor's degree in Economics and Statistics for Organizations is centered on the study of economic and mathematical-statistical disciplines and aims to provide students with solid foundations to master the tools of economic analysis, preparing them for advent of Big Data in societies, giving them the necessary tools and theoretical knowledge. The course is the first in Italy to combine rigorous economic training with the frontier of statistical research, providing students with a complete educational offering in the economic-statistical and managerial area and allowing them to specialize according to the needs and expectations of businesses and economic-financial institutions. In order to bring students closer to the world of work, entrepreneurship and innovation, information and communication technologies and environmental sustainability, practical interactive workshops are held in collaboration with industry experts, and seminars are made available for high quality themes.
Course in 'Cultural Economics'
The aim of the course is to provide the analytical tools for understanding the relationship between the various cultural domains and the economic system. In particular, the course focuses on the public intervention in the cultural field, the reasons for and the limits of public funding for culture, the private market of cultural goods, the supply and demand of goods and cultural activities, the relationship between cultural development, cultural capital and economic growth. Case studies are presented, combining theoretical analysis with the practice.
Laboratory in 'UNESCO, Culture, and Development'
The laboratory aims at providing tools to analyze "The UNESCO Thematic Indicators for Culture in the 2030 Agenda". It is a framework of thematic indicators whose purpose is to measure and monitor the progress of culture’s enabling contribution to the national and local implementation of the Goals and Targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Through the lab, students will acquire knowledge about the main UNESCO programs and activities on the conservation, management, and promotion of culture and cultural heritage.
The Master's Degree in Economics of the Environment, Culture and Territory (EACT) is an advanced, multidisciplinary and future-oriented two-year course of study offered, starting from the academic year 2021-22, jointly by the University of Turin and the Polytechnic of Turin. The Departments that make up the teaching offer of EACT are the Department of Economics and Statistics (EST, UniTO), the Inter-University Department of Territorial Sciences, Projects and Policies (DIST, UniTO and POliTO) and the Department of Environmental Engineering, of Territory and Infrastructure (DIATI, PoliTO). EACT offers students the opportunity to achieve a highly professional specialization for economic analysis and policy formulation in highly topical areas, choosing between two different curricular paths: "Environmental Economics and Policies" and "Economics and Policies of Culture".
Curriculum in 'Cultural economics and policy'
The curriculum is aimed at developing in-depth skills relating to the analysis of territorial systems and the use of cultural resources and creative industries as a key factor for local development, as well as for quality of life and for social cohesion within a specific territorial context. By specializing in Economics and Cultural Policies, students acquire the necessary tools to understand and manage the link between territorial systems and the valorisation of their historical-artistic heritage.
Laboratory in 'UNESCO and Sustainable Development'
The objective of the laboratory is the direct knowledge - through the analysis of case studies - of the main UNESCO programs and designations in the spirit of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a specific focus on territorial development. The participants will acquire critical knowledge of the main programs promoted by UNESCO with a particular focus on the Convention for the Protection of the Cultural and Natural Heritage of Humanity (1972), as well as other UNESCO conventions and Programs.
In an increasingly complex world marked by conflicts, natural disasters, and the urgent need for sustainable development, two specialized Master’s programs emerge as pivotal in equipping professionals to address these pressing challenges. The Master in Cultural Property Protection in Crisis Response aims to strengthen international cooperation in safeguarding cultural heritage threatened by crises, while enhancing the resilience of affected communities. Simultaneously, the Master in World Heritage and Cultural Projects for Development focuses on developing essential skills for designing cultural projects that promote sustainable development and integrated management of heritage. Together, these programs highlight the vital role of culture in crisis response and development, preparing graduates to navigate the ethical, economic, and social dimensions of cultural heritage protection and management in today’s dynamic landscape.
The Master in Cultural Property Protection in Crisis Response is a one-year program designed to enhance international cooperation in protecting cultural heritage from conflicts, natural disasters, and climate change. It aims to develop professionals equipped with critical thinking and practical skills necessary for addressing the ethical complexities of cultural property protection. With the growing recognition of culture's importance in crisis scenarios, this program responds to the increasing need for effective measures to safeguard heritage and community identity while combating illicit trafficking. The curriculum targets a diverse audience, including civilians, military personnel, NGOs, and peacekeepers involved in crisis intervention and disaster response.

The Master in World Heritage and Cultural Projects for Development is a one-year program that focuses on the essential knowledge and competencies needed to design projects in the cultural field with particular attention to sustainable development issues and new models of conservation and integrated management. The program is part of the activities of the UNESCO Chair on Economics of Culture and Heritage. Central to the program is the application of culture-related UNESCO Conventions (World Heritage, Intangible Heritage, Diversity of Cultural Expressions) and programmes (Creative Cities, Man and Biosphere, Global Geoparks, Memories of the World) in order to investigate the economic, social, institutional, and legal challenges for their implementation at the local level. Master participants are expected to acquire skills related to cultural planning and its impact on local development processes.
The Academy on UNESCO Designations and Sustainable Development was launched in 2015 jointly with the exhibition "Behind Food Sustainability", as a pilot program on the double occasion of the United Nations Development Program "III International Forum on Local Economic Development" and of the EXPO Milan, in collaboration with the United Nations System Staff College and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization. Today, it is a capacity building program ideated and implemented by the Santagata Foundation for the Economics of Culture and UNESCO through the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (based in Venice, Italy). The main objective of the Academy is to contribute to the achievement of the UN 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals, through the advancement of institutional and professional capacities of managing authorities, communities, and relevant operators from different UNESCO designations in the Culture and Science sectors.
